GMU PharmD Students Educate Public and Patients on World Heart Day

On the eve of ‘World Heart Day -2018’, the Final year PharmD students at College of Pharmacy organized a community engagement activity at the Thumbay Hospital, Fujairah, on 29 September 2018.

The objective of the program was to promote population health and educate the general public on prevention, early detection and better management of cardiovascular diseases. During the event, PharmD students checked the Body Mass Index (BMI) and measured the Blood Pressure (BP) to the patients and patient attendants visiting the hospital. In addition, students also displayed educational posters and interacted with the patients and patient attendants and educated them on lifestyle modifications to be adopted in cardiovascular diseases.

Specialized counselling was also provided for the patients regarding their medications and the need for patient adherence to pharmacotherapy. These activities were performed in coordination with the Physicians, Nurses and Pharmacists at the hospital.

This event was an excellent opportunity for students to practice their role as communicators, educators and promoter of population health.
