GMU College of Pharmacy Celebrates World Pharmacists Day 2018

On the eve of ‘World Pharmacists Day-2018’, the College of Pharmacy, GMU organized a Community Engagement activity at the Thumbay Hospital, Ajman, on September 25, 2018. This event was organized in collaboration with Thumbay Group of Pharmacies, Ajman.

The objective of the program was to promote population health and educate the general public on safe and effective use of medicines in relation to six specific themes: proper storage of medicines, safe use of antimicrobials, use of over-the-counter painkillers, drug information resources for patients, use of specialized devices and dosage forms, and use of patient compliance aids to improve patient compliance. During the event, PharmD students interacted with the patients and patient attendants on specific issues concerning their health and displayed educational posters and counselling aids for an effective patient interaction.

At the end of the event, students, pharmacists from Thumbay Pharmacies, and faculty members from the College of Pharmacy assembled in a lecture hall and shared the importance of pharmacists’ role in promoting population health.  Prof. Sherief Khalifa, the Dean of the College of Pharmacy highlighted the changing trends in the pharmacy profession, the importance of communication skills in pharmacy practice and the responsibility and accountability of the pharmacist to society.
